Navman F25 Review
The Navman F25 is the most basic Navman GPS SatNav handset and it is the most affordable at a mere £81.99 online. But while it does not sport the upscale features of its more expensive siblings, the Navman F25 does well with the basic features it has and provides great value as a GPS SatNav handset. You might get it cheaper in some brick and mortar electronic gadget shops as well.
Stripped to the Bone
The specification sheet on the Navman F25 reveals more features that have been taken out than it has. But most of them are the frills that put some entertainment value to most GPS devices that cost more. You won’t get any imaging or multimedia features as there are no camera, no picture viewer, no mp3 music or mpeg4 video player which somehow waste the 4.3” screen display. You also don’t get microSD memory expansion which is just fine since large images, audio and video files for which a large storage is needed won’t be useful here.
Don’t even expect Bluetooth or WiFi features here too. In short, the Navman F25 is really your GPS device down to the core. It does tax common sense on why it had to spend on a 4.3” display when the frills that benefit from it are not there. But it helps and a large screen is always welcome even on a GPS device.
Covering the Basics Well
Weighing 190g on a body measuring just 138x84x18mm, the Navman F25 does the direction stuff you expect from GPS devices well enough with extensive map coverage of UK and Ireland. For a start, the 4.3” touchscreen display isn’t entirely a waste as its expanse makes reading the text display overlaid on the maps a breeze to go through from the driver seat. This is when the unit is mounted on the dashboard or windscreen.
Satellite navigational devices clearly benefits from displays that are increasingly getting larger with every passing generation. You also get voice direction instructions on a turn by turn guidance mode which makes looking at its gorgeous display unnecessary most of the time so you can have better focus on the road.
There’s support for the Traffic Management Channel (TMC) so you can be confident not to run smack against congested roads due to repairs or plain volume of vehicles. You also get warnings on speed cameras located along roads and highways as its database include information on them. You certainly will need to get online to have them updated at least every six months as there are always changes on roads as well as new roads built during that period.
What’s in the Box?
Just like any SatNav kit, the Navman comes with the standard in vehicle charger, USB data cables, the configuration and online access software on a CD and the usual user manuals. It also comes with a mounting bracket kit for both windscreen and dashboard mount.
