Navman S500hf Review
For professional drivers with a strong passion for their road bound sport, the Navman S500HF SatNav system is the last choice. Navman’s flagship GPS gadget is fully loaded with features that are housed in an elegantly styled slim design that measures 8.5 x 13.2 x 1.95 cm and tipping just 161 grams on the weight scale. It is powered by a SiRF star III GPS receiver for greater GPS signal reception
Innovative Upscale Features
First of, you just have to love its expansive 4.7 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 272 that is one of the largest for a GPS device. It’s preloaded with UK and Ireland maps down to street level and provides both 2D and 3D views.
You get the latest Mio Spirit software which, among others, allows Slide Touch where all it takes is a couple of gentle taps on the touchscreen to get where you want and display slide in and out with the sliding gesture of your finger.
It’s voice activated as well so you can give voice commands while driving. Moreover, you get verbal direction on its turn by turn navigation so your driving is not compromised at any time by having to glance on the GPS display at any time.
The S500hf comes with Bluetooth technology so you can pair it with your mobile phone for hands free calling for safer driving. The Navman Spirit also works quite well when used on foot, bike or on public transport. Getting to places that are not accessible by car is not a problem as its Walking Mode lets you navigate just as easily on foot.
Get to your destination though Photos
You could just input a postcode or address and it calculates a set of recommended routes for you. Or you could just browse through its library of geo tagged location photos that you can download from the NavPix™ and Flickr® websites free of charge and become part of its Points of Interest data. Just tap on one photo and the Navman Spirit can calculate the routes to get you there.
As Green as it Gets
With the Navman S500hf Spirit software, you can benefit from its Economical Routing plan where you get the most cost efficient routes with the least stop and go motion to minimize CO2 emissions. This feature seems to be getting popular with the better and high end GPS devices in the market.
Avoid Traffic and Quick Lane Changes
The Navman Mio Sprit software gets in touch with the Traffic Management FM channel to alert you of any developing traffic congestion along your chosen route so you can take alternate routes. It also provides Lane Guidance so you can be prepared to change lanes ahead of any incoming junction or road exit.
What’s in the Box
The Navman S500HF comes with the usual user’s manual documentation on CD, in car charger for its lithium ion battery, USB data cables, the MioMore desktop software on DVD and a mounting assembly for the windscreen. You can get all these for a £185 price tag. This is truly a real value for an upscale SatNav device and you can get it cheaper in discount stores nationwide.
